Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) for municipalities is a means to get a project done on schedule, within spec, and on budget, while keeping public complaints to an absolute minimum. This process will allow utilities to be placed across large spans of roadway without the need to close it down to traffic. HDD allows for underground work to be placed much deeper, where conventional trenching could require the need to open a large and sometimes dangerous whole. Most of all HDD will be much less disruptive to the surrounding areas while the work is being completed than with trenching.
